Karen's design team is a tightly-knit group that consists of pattern-makers, graphic artists, sample makers, fabric buyers, trim experts, and fellow designers. We're excited to introduce you to Amy, who's been a part of our team for nearly twenty years; and Lorraine, our resident art designer, who also happens to be Karen's sister and best friend. We had the chance to spend the day with both Amy and Lorraine as they worked on Spring 2022 and ask them a few questions about their role and time at Karen Kane.

What are you responsible for at Karen Kane?
I develop patterns from the designs that Karen sketches. Once she draws what she wants to make, Karen picks what fabric to cut it in, and then I create the pattern from which we cut and sew a sample. After that, we look at the finished garment on a model to make sure it fits nicely and is what Karen envisioned. If corrections need to be made, I adjust the pattern, and we try again. There is a lot of love and patience that goes into each and every garment that we make.

What is your favorite part of your job?
I've had a passion to make clothes since I was a young age. It's my dream job to be able to do what I love most: make beautiful clothing every day. I love working hard and feeling rewarded at the end of the day.

What is it like working with Karen?
I have a job that makes me happy and I look forward to coming to work in the morning. I am so blessed to be a part of the Karen Kane family. Time has flown - I've been working with Karen for 18 years. And now, her granddaughter steals my heart everyday when I get to see her smile. I can't wait to watch her grow up and become part of our future team!

As a graphic artwork designer, I work with Karen and the rest of her design team developing special prints, embroidery patterns, and screen-printed layouts for different clothing styles.

What is your favorite part of your job?
For me, it's fun to see how a print design can change the look of an otherwise plain garment. Some of my favorites have been a couple of the more vintage-looking artwork that we've worked on recently. I'm thankful that I have the opportunity to work with Karen, Lonnie, and my nephews on a regular basis. I remember when she and Lonnie first started this company and have watched it grow ever since. It truly is a family business.

What is it like working with your sister?
Most people think that I chat with Karen all throughout the day, but the truth is that I often see her more when I'm outside the office! She's always busy when we're at work together!
