Karen Kane & FIDM Little Black Dress Challenge
To support the growth of fashion education, Karen Kane partnered with the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising for a special project of the school’s 2012 advanced design program. Each student was challenged to design the perfect black dress for Karen’s Winter 2012 collection.
Over the course of 9 months, the students toured Karen Kane’s manufacturing facility in downtown Los Angeles, worked with Karen on design concepts and fit, and perfected their dresses until they hitting the runway and premiering at FIDM’s 2012 Debut Gala.
At the end of the show, Karen announced the prize: the three winning dresses would join the 2012 Karen Kane fall/winter collection. Each winning dress is named after its student designer & features its own unique twist. Congratulations to the winning designers: Joshua Christensen, Tracy Moore, and Wensi Gao.
